Copper Queens Score Six in Their Opening WAFCON Match
The Copper Queens beat Egypt 6-0 in the opening match of their WAFCON campaign. Their dominant performance is the perfect start to the tournament.
This Group C encounter was not expected to be a completely one-sided affair, but the Copper Queens, led by their captain Barbra Banda, proved to be an unstoppable force.
In the build-up to the tournament, the Copper Queens had drawn and lost against Algeria, but they have delivered when it really mattered.
Banda scored four goals and inspired the team with a 27-minute hat-trick, while Rachael Nachula's clinical penalty opened the floodgates. Eneless Phiri also scored late on to rub salt into Egypt's wounds.
Banda currently sits as the tournament's top scorer following her sublime performance. The Copper Queens' victory is the biggest winning margin recorded at WAFCON since 2016, demonstrating that they are a force to be reckoned with.
However, the Copper Queens' biggest test will come this Saturday when they face the reigning champions, Nigeria.
