Samukonga Reaches Commonwealth Games 400m Final
Sprinter Muzala Samukonga has qualified for the men's 400m final at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, keeping alive his hopes of defending the title he won at the Birmingham 2022 Games.
The Olympic bronze medallist booked his place in the final after clocking 45.95 seconds to finish second in his semi-final.
Fellow Zambian sprinters Patrick Nyambe, Kennedy Luchembe and Niddy Mingilishi were unable to progress after falling short in their respective semi-finals. Nyambe recorded a time of 46.50 seconds in the men's 400m, while Luchembe finished in 46.60 seconds. Mingilishi clocked 55.10 seconds in the women's 400m.
The trio will now turn their attention to the 4x400m mixed relay, where they will join the rest of Team Zambia in pursuit of a strong performance.
Meanwhile, Samukonga remains Zambia's sole representative in the men's 400m final as he bids to retain his Commonwealth title.
