Nevers Mumba steps aside from active politics

New Nation Party President Dr. Nevers Mumba has announced his decision to step aside from active politics with immediate effect, saying the move marks a new chapter in his service to the nation.

Dr. Mumba, a former Republican Vice President, stressed that his decision should not be interpreted as a permanent retirement from public service. Instead, he described it as a redefinition of his role and an opportunity to serve Zambia in a different capacity.

Speaking during a press briefing, Dr. Mumba announced that the party’s Vice President, Reuben Sambo, will serve as Acting President until the next party convention.

He said the decision followed extensive consultations and what he described as a personal calling to contribute to the country in a different way.

Dr. Mumba further disclosed that he had engaged President Hakainde Hichilema, who wished him well in his new role as a former Vice President and statesman. He said he intends to offer counsel and guidance drawing from his understanding of scripture, diplomacy and years of political experience.

As part of the transition, Dr. Mumba also announced his withdrawal from the UPND Alliance Council of Presidents. He wished all members of the alliance continued success in their respective roles.

Dr. Mumba said he was leaving active politics without bitterness, but with a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunity to have served the nation in various capacities, particularly in government and public life.
