Zambia Bids Farewell to Former Vice President Dr Guy Scott

Zambia today will lay to rest former Vice President Dr Guy Scott, who was accorded a State Funeral in recognition of his long and distinguished service to the nation. He died on July 15, 2026, after an illness, at the age of 82.

A funeral church service will be held at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka, where mourners including President Hichilema will gather to celebrate his life and pay their final respects. Following the service, the late statesman will be buried at Leopards Hill Memorial Park.

In the days leading up to the burial, mourners from all walks of life streamed to Belvedere Lodge in Lusaka to console the bereaved family and reflect on the legacy of a man widely remembered for his intellect, humility and dedication to public service.

Dr Scott occupied a unique place in Zambia's political history, having served as Vice President and, for a period, as Acting President. He was celebrated as a man of peace and unity, whose contribution to the country's democratic journey earned him respect across the political divide.
