President Hichilema Declares Five Days of National Mourning for Dr Guy Scott

President Hakainde Hichilema has declared a five-day period of national mourning, from 16 to 20 July 2026, in honour of former Acting President Dr Guy Scott, recognising his distinguished service and lasting contribution to Zambia.

Dr Scott will be laid to rest on Monday at Leopards Hill Memorial Park in Lusaka. The burial will be preceded by a State Funeral Service at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross, beginning at 10:00.

Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa said members of the public wishing to pay their respects may do so at Belvedere Lodge along Leopards Hill Road in Kabulonga, Lusaka, where funeral gatherings will be held.

Throughout the national mourning period, from 06:00 to 18:00 each day, all national flags across the country will fly at half-mast as a mark of respect for the late former Vice-President.

Government has called on all Zambians to join in honouring Dr Scott's memory and celebrating a lifetime of dedicated public service, during which he played a significant role in the country's political history and national development.
