Over 5,700 Teachers Assigned to Eastern Province Since 2021
Government has assigned 5,723 teachers to schools across Eastern Province over the past five years as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the education sector and improve learning standards.
Eastern Province Education Officer Brainley Malambo said the recruitment and placement of additional teachers has significantly eased staffing shortages, leading to a more balanced teacher-to-learner ratio in schools throughout the province, in continued efforts to support Free Education.
Chipata District Education Board Secretary Philip Zulu said the district is one of the major beneficiaries of the programme, noting that the increased number of teachers has enhanced classroom instruction and created a more effective learning environment for pupils.
The initiative has also been welcomed by newly appointed teachers. Rozaria Banda said the recruitment drive has opened up valuable employment opportunities for qualified graduates, while Morgan Bwalya described the programme as an important step in providing stable and meaningful jobs for many Zambians.
