Copperbelt Clergy Commend Government for Accepting Lungu Burial Ruling

Some members of the clergy on the Copperbelt have commended the Government’s decision not to appeal against the ruling by South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal regarding the burial of former President Edgar Lungu.

Reverend Hopkins Changwe of Kitwe said the Government’s decision was in the best interests of peace and national unity, “that we have been mourning for a long time,” and that it is “high time we put this matter to rest.”

House of Clergy Zambia National Director, Reverend Jimmy Ngambi, also welcomed the move, stating that the Government’s position would enable Zambians to find closure and deserved commendation.

Meanwhile, residents of Kitwe have expressed support for the Government’s stance, saying it has finally brought an end to the prolonged uncertainty surrounding the burial of the late former President.

One resident, Misheck Museteka, said the decision means the Lungu family can now proceed with burial arrangements wherever they choose.
