Mwaliteta Calls for Active and Present MPs
Obvious Mwaliteta, the UPND Lusaka Province Chairperson, has warned party Members of Parliament that those who fail to mobilise or neglect their constituencies risk not being adopted for next year’s general election. He reminded MPs that they are part of both the party and the government, urging them to balance their visibility in Parliament with active engagement in national and local party activities. “We work as a team; we work together,” he said.
Mwaliteta emphasised the importance of the ongoing voter registration exercise, calling on MPs to encourage citizens, particularly young people, to register and participate in the 2026 general elections. He described this as a key responsibility of all representatives committed to strengthening Zambia’s democracy.
Turning to the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), Mwaliteta cautioned MPs against politicising or mismanaging community funds. He stressed that the CDF must serve its intended purpose of improving local development. “Let CDF work for the community and let the community benefit, because it is their government that has sent that money to them,” he said.
Mwaliteta concluded by commending UPND MPs for their responsible management of funds and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to a transparent and inclusive governance.
