"Unity Over Violence": President Hichilema Calls for Shared Vision After Weeks of Political Violence
President Hakainde Hichilema has urged Zambians to unite in adopting a "shared vision" during a speech at State House on Tuesday morning. The President organised this event to address the recent wave of violence across the country over the past few weeks.
Addressing the violence directly, President Hichilema stated unequivocally that "violence takes us nowhere" and that "love will always conquer hatred." The President referenced the situation that the UNPD faced upon their election in 2021 stating that “we inherited lawlessness, street fights in the bus stops, in the markets.” However, he stressed that he stopped his party members back then from carrying out retaliatory violence and added “I asked you then not to do it, I am asking you now not to do it.”
The President also highlighted the New Dawn Government's achievements in areas including fiscal stability, education, mining, and inflation control. He also pledged further measures to tackle the energy crisis. He stressed that all these efforts must be undertaken with a shared purpose, stating: "When we work together, we get things done."
