President Hichilema to Hold Major Press Conference on National Unity This Morning

Head of State to address nation on recent violence, reaffirm commitment to rule of law and peaceful politics

LUSAKA - President Hakainde Hichilema will hold a significant press conference at State House this morning at 10:00 AM to address recent incidents of political violence that have troubled the nation.

The briefing, which will be broadcast live on national television and other platforms, will see the President speak directly to concerns about escalating tensions following several troubling incidents across the country.

In recent weeks, Zambia has witnessed a disturbing pattern of politically-motivated violence. During a presidential visit to Chingola, where President Hichilema was meeting with victims of the burnt Chiwempala Market, unknown individuals stoned the presidential convoy. Days later, youths allegedly affiliated with the ruling UPND party stormed the Patriotic Front Secretariat in Lusaka, causing property damage and assaulting citizens. Most recently, suspected UPND cadres were involved in the brutal assault and abduction of PF faction acting president Given Lubinda during a party meeting in Kabwe.

President Hichilema has consistently condemned all forms of political violence, emphasizing that such actions have no place in Zambia's democratic culture. This morning's press conference will provide the Head of State with an opportunity to reinforce his government's commitment to peaceful political discourse and the rule of law.

State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka confirmed that members of the media and invited guests are expected to be seated by 09:00.

This morning's press conference signals the government's recognition of the need for direct presidential communication during this challenging period for Zambian democracy.
