President Hichilema Vows Zero Tolerance For Violence ahead of Press Conference on Tuesday

President Hakainde Hichilema announced on Sunday that he will hold a press conference on Tuesday to address the recent resurgence of violence, among other matters.

Recent weeks have witnessed several troubling incidents. These include stones being thrown at the President during a speech in Chingola, as well as images circulating online last week showing acting Patriotic Front President Given Lubinda being roughed up.

Speaking yesterday at the Evangelical Church in Zambia (ECZ) – Matero Congregation Diamond Jubilee, President Hichilema urged Church leaders to set a positive example and discourage unconventional methods of resolving disagreements.

"This country will not be allowed to descend into vandalism, hooliganism, or street fights in bus stops and markets," he stated. "I stand here to say: not under our watch."

Since taking office, the President's New Dawn Government has prioritized ensuring the country does not return to caderism.
