Hichilema Seeks Global Partnerships to Strengthen Education Systems

President Hakainde Hichilema has urged stronger partnerships between Zambia, the United Kingdom, and other international stakeholders to strengthen education systems and prepare the younger generation for the demands of a modern economy.

Speaking at a roundtable hosted at Dumfries House in Scotland, the President underlined that education remains a central pillar of his administration’s development agenda. He stressed that schools must go beyond academic instruction to equip learners with practical skills that can drive economic growth and build resilience against the challenges of climate change.

Hichilema highlighted Zambia’s landmark free education policy, which has opened access to schooling for children across the country and expanded life opportunities. He added that his government has integrated artisanal and technical skills training into the curriculum to ensure that young people gain a broader set of competencies for the future.

The roundtable was convened at the invitation of King Charles III, who commended Zambia’s progress and focus on achieving universal education.
