Tonse in Disarray as Lubinda Denies 'Cabinet List'
The Tonse Alliance is showing continued signs of collapse as acting PF president Given Lubinda struggles to maintain control, dismissing guidance allegedly left by the late President Lungu while opposition unity crumbles.
In a revealing interview on Diamond TV Wednesday, Lubinda hastily rejected a list of 94 names purportedly left by Lungu to strengthen the alliance structure, despite the list coming from Chris Zumani, who served as Lungu's trusted political advisor. The dismissal raises questions about whether current PF leadership is honoring the late president's vision or pursuing their own agenda.
Adding to the chaos, PF faction Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda was forced to apologize after party cadres violently disrupted a Tonse meeting—the very behavior PF leaders claim to condemn. "We regret what happened yesterday," Nakacinda admitted, acknowledging that known PF members were responsible for the disruption.
The incident exposes deep cracks in the alliance. Rather than presenting a united front against the UPND government, the opposition appears consumed by internal power struggles and "personal egos"—ironically, the very issues Lubinda claims others should set aside.
Nakacinda's promise to "call for a fresh meeting" and undertake damage control "in the shortest possible time" suggests the alliance is in crisis mode. His acknowledgment that there are unresolved "grievances" and need for "corrections" contradicts Lubinda's assertions that everything is proceeding normally.
Political analysts note that for an alliance supposedly ready to "redeem this country," the Tonse leadership cannot even organize a meeting without controversy or maintain discipline among its own members. The question now is whether Zambian voters will trust an opposition that appears more focused on internal squabbles than providing a credible alternative government.
