Great East Road Expansion on Track for Completion

Expansion works on the Great East Road in Lusaka are progressing well, with the project on course for completion by mid-December 2026.

Zulu Burrow Consulting Limited Assistant Resident Engineer Misheck Daka said three lanes have already been installed on both sides of the road from Airport traffic circle to Hybrid, with U-turns also complete.

Construction of a third lane from Levy Mwanawasa Hospital to Hybrid traffic circle is expected to begin this week, while a section from Chelston tank to Hybrid traffic circle will be temporarily closed next month for full pavement and rehabilitation works.

The project covers approximately 6.96 kilometres between the Munali Flyover Bridge and Airport traffic circle — one of Lusaka's busiest stretches — and is intended to ease the chronic congestion that has long affected commuters travelling in and out of the city centre
