Twin Palm Road Expansion Nears Completion

Expansion works along Twin Palm Road, being carried out under the Lusaka 40-Kilometre Urban Road Project, are nearing completion.

Lusaka City Council Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba said the upgrading of the road forms part of ongoing efforts to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity between the city's residential, commercial and industrial areas.

Ms Mwamba explained that, once finished, the project would transform the existing road into a modern two-lane carriageway designed to enhance road safety and support Lusaka's rapidly growing transport needs. She said a significant portion of the road had already been completed, with only minor works remaining before the project is fully delivered.

As part of the upgrade, drainage works will also be undertaken to ensure the smooth flow of rainwater and to protect the new road infrastructure from damage during the wet season. Ms Mwamba noted that proper drainage was essential to extending the lifespan of the road and safeguarding the investment.

According to the council, the Twin Palm Road expansion is expected to be completed by September 2026.

The project has been welcomed by residents and road users, with several motorists and pedestrians expressing satisfaction at the steady pace of the works. Many said the improvements would make their daily journeys quicker, safer and more convenient.

The upgrade adds to a series of infrastructure developments taking shape across the capital, as authorities continue efforts to modernise Lusaka's road network and meet the demands of a growing urban population.
