Solarmaax to Develop Zambia’s Largest Solar Power Plant in Solwezi
United Kingdom-based renewable energy company Solarmaax Limited has announced plans to construct a 500-megawatt photovoltaic solar power plant in Solwezi District, North-Western Province.
The landmark project is being developed in partnership with Hometown Harvest Limited following the signing of a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with ZESCO.
Solarmaax Chairman Anthony Fiddy said the company has secured US$600 million in financing from Champlain Trading to support the development of the solar facility. He added that implementation partners are ready to begin work, with discussions with contractors and suppliers nearing completion to ensure the project is delivered on schedule.
The solar plant will be built on approximately 1,000 hectares of land and is expected to become Zambia’s largest solar power facility once completed.
Mr Fiddy said the project will play a key role in meeting Zambia’s rising electricity needs by increasing the country’s renewable energy capacity and providing reliable and sustainable power. He added that the investment will contribute to economic growth and support the transition towards a more sustainable energy future.
In a statement issued to ZNBC, Mr Fiddy expressed appreciation to the Zambian Government for its support and for creating an enabling regulatory environment that has helped facilitate the project.
