Bus Fares Reduced Nationwide Following Fuel Price Cut
Bus fares have been reduced across the nation following the recent reduction in fuel pump prices.
The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) said the revised fares came into effect on 6 July 2026.
RTSA Head of Public Relations Chilufya Mwelwa said the fare adjustments followed the latest fuel price review by the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) and subsequent approval by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics.
Ms Mwelwa said passengers travelling on inter-city routes will benefit from an average fare reduction of 6.2 per cent, while fares on inter-mine routes have been reduced by K3.00.
She added that local bus fares within Lusaka have been reduced by K1.00, while commuters travelling on peri-urban routes between Lusaka and surrounding towns will pay K3.00 less.
Ms Mwelwa said local bus fares in the Copperbelt and other towns have also been reduced by K1.00.
In a statement issued to ZNBC News, Ms Mwelwa explained that the revised fare structure followed RTSA’s submission of proposed adjustments to the Ministry of Transport and Logistics after consultations with bus operators and the Bus and Taxi Owners Association of Zambia (BTOAZ).
She said the review considered the reduction in fuel pump prices announced by the ERB for July.
Ms Mwelwa urged all Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators to implement the approved fares immediately and comply with the revised fare structure.
She added that members of the public seeking clarification on the new fares can contact the RTSA National Call Centre through its hotline or WhatsApp service.
