Government Committed to Increasing Long-term Food Security through Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships
Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary, Ms Chilomo, recently issued a statement that “reiterated the Government is committed to foster public-private civil partnerships”. This will boost food security, reduce poverty and strengthen communities throughout the country.
President HH and his Government recognise the importance of greater collaboration between businesses, communities and government bodies, as this enables people throughout the country to benefit from increased access to food.
Furthermore, the Government recognises that food security extends beyond increasing production. Targeted agricultural training and cooperation with stakeholders can reduce dependency amongst vulnerable communities across the country.
Ms Chilomo's remarks, made on behalf of the Government, came as she helped hand over 30 large bags of maize and various other food supplies to struggling households in Lusaka's George Compound, thus illustrating the efforts of the Government and local communities to put "words into action".
AgriTrain Initiative Zambia Limited Managing Director, Mr Kazhimaika, also remarked that his organisation is successfully collaborating with the Government to train and equip farmers to fully unlock their potential. He said “with support from Government and the US Embassy, his organisation had trained over 20,000 small scale farmers in the country”.
This forms a crucial aspect of President HH's broader strategy to increase economic growth, strengthen food security and deliver development throughout all regions of Zambia.
