Kafue to Resume Vehicle Assembly Under New Economic Zone, Says President
President Hakainde Hichilema has announced that Zambia will resume assembling vehicles locally once the new Multi-Facility Economic Zone in Kafue becomes operational, a development he said would bring more businesses, jobs and stronger growth to the district's economy.
Addressing thousands of residents who packed Matanda Stadium during his Community Engagement in Kafue, the President said the zone would open fresh opportunities for the area and its people, positioning Kafue as a hub for local industry.
He also pledged that the Kafue road would be expanded to dual carriageway status up to the Kafue Bridge if he is given another mandate in the August 13 General Election. Acknowledging the persistent traffic congestion along the stretch, President Hichilema said upgrading the road would be treated as a priority.
The President further noted that the creation of an additional constituency in Kafue district would double its Constituency Development Fund allocation, channelling more resources into local projects and accelerating development across the area.
His remarks in Kafue formed part of a wider message of continued investment in roads, jobs and infrastructure delivered during his campaign tour of Lusaka Province, where he has urged residents to back the UPND at every level in order to protect and build on the gains made since 2021.
President Hichilema reaffirmed his administration's commitment to job creation and economic transformation, telling supporters that Kafue's growth would be central to the government's development plans in a fresh term.
