President Hichilema Comes to the Aid of Mongu Traders After Fire
President Hakainde Hichilema has moved swiftly to support four shop owners in Mongu District whose merchandise was destroyed in a fire that swept through the central business district yesterday, handing over K80,000 in immediate relief.
The President made his way to the scene yesterday evening, where he met the affected traders as well as the owner of the building that housed the shops. He offered his sympathies to all those who had suffered losses, acknowledging the blow the blaze had dealt to their livelihoods.
Describing the incident as deeply unfortunate, the Head of State explained that the donation was intended as an immediate cushion to help the traders begin picking up the pieces while the proper authorities work to establish what caused the fire. He was careful to stress the importance of getting to the bottom of the matter, noting that understanding exactly how the fire started would be key to preventing a repeat of such an episode in future.
The visit was not solely a matter of official business. The President also took time to greet the many residents who had lined the streets of Mongu, hoping to catch a glimpse of him as word of his presence spread through the town.
