Western Water launches $6m programme to boost supply and sanitation in growth centres

Western Water Supply and Sanitation Company has launched a US$6 million programme aimed at expanding access to clean water and improved sanitation across Western Province.

The Zambia Water Supply and Sanitation in Growth Centres Programme, backed by the World Bank, is designed to strengthen the performance of commercial utilities while delivering sustainable services to communities that have long faced shortages and underinvestment.

Company Managing Director Mufalo Kabika said the initiative would mark a significant step forward for the province, with a sharp focus on lifting operational, financial and service delivery standards. He noted that the programme would help the utility meet rising demand while building the kind of resilient infrastructure needed to support long-term growth in the region.

The Anti-Corruption Commission has also weighed in, urging the Integrity Committee to closely monitor the rollout of the programme to ensure that funds are used transparently and that the intended benefits reach the communities they are designed to serve.
