Police Detain 56 in Livingstone Overnight Crackdown
A multi-agency security operation in Livingstone has resulted in the arrest of 56 people as authorities intensify efforts to restore order and combat rising criminal activity in the tourist capital.
Officers drawn from the Zambia Police Service, the Department of Immigration, and the Drug Enforcement Commission conducted the joint patrol between 21:00 hours on February 13 and 04:00 hours on February 14, 2026, sweeping through the Central Business District and neighbouring areas.
The majority of those detained (50 individuals) face charges related to disorderly conduct and behaviour deemed likely to provoke a breach of the peace. Three men were also taken into custody on suspicion of trafficking psychotropic substances: Monde Mayeya, 36, and Joseph Chisole, 44, both residents of Malota Compound, along with Misheck Mayeya, 25, from Dambwa North Township. Three women were separately detained over suspected immigration violations and are being processed by immigration officials.
Southern Province Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo said the operation targeted a range of offences, from aggravated robbery and housebreaking to drug abuse and illegal entry into the country.
All 56 suspects remain in custody ahead of expected court appearances.
The overnight exercise underscores the commitment of security agencies in Southern Province to safeguarding communities and ensuring Livingstone remains a safe destination for both residents and visitors.
