ZICTA Connects 200 Schools to Internet Services
The Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) has connected 200 schools across the country to internet services as part of efforts to bridge the digital divide.
ZICTA Director General Collins Mbulo said the initiative was carried out under the Universal Access and Service Fund, which seeks to narrow the gap between served and under-served communities. He made the remarks during a visit to Chinsali Day Secondary and Lubwa Primary Schools, both of which have benefited from the programme.
Mr Mbulo added that 37 schools in Muchinga Province have been equipped with computers to help strengthen digital literacy among learners.
The rollout forms part of a broader government push to ensure young Zambians in rural and remote areas are not left behind in an increasingly digital world. Access to reliable internet and modern computing equipment is widely regarded as essential to improving educational outcomes and preparing students for the demands of the modern workforce.
Chinsali Day Secondary School Head Teacher Chinyama Nang'andu said the provision of internet and computers has already had a positive impact, noting improvements in literacy levels among learners at the school.
