Police Investigate Shooting Incident at Kabwe School

Police in Kabwe are investigating a shooting incident in which a projectile from an unknown firearm hit a classroom at Jasmine Boys' Secondary School.

Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi said the incident occurred on January 13 around 10:00 hours, with a teacher and learners present in the classroom at the time. No injuries were recorded.

The matter was reported to Kasanda Police Station by School Manager Kondwani Gondwe, who stated that a suspected projectile had penetrated the roof of a classroom block and landed on the classroom floor.

"Police officers who rushed to the scene conducted a thorough assessment of the school and its surrounding area, assuring both staff and learners that the environment was safe," Mr Chilabi stated.

He said officers observed a visible hole on one of the roofing iron sheets, believed to be the point of entry, as well as a small hole on the classroom floor where the projectile struck.

A projectile was recovered from the scene and has been submitted for forensic examination.

Mr Chilabi said investigations have been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the source of the firearm discharge and the identity of those responsible.

The incident has raised concerns about safety in schools and the presence of firearms in communities surrounding educational institutions in the Kabwe area.
