Government Releases K760 Million for Free Education Programme
The Treasury has disbursed K760 million to public and grant-aided schools nationwide to support term one implementation of the free education policy, Ministry of Education Principal Public Relations Officer Clive Kalunga announced Thursday.
The release, which schools will begin receiving from today, addresses recent reports of delays in school grant disbursements and demonstrates the government's commitment to education financing under President Hakainde Hichilema's leadership.
"By prioritising timely funding, we are safeguarding learning continuity and reinforcing confidence in the education system," Kalunga stated.
The Ministry will maintain oversight to ensure efficient and transparent use of these resources, monitoring disbursement processes and tracking expenditure to sustain improved learning conditions.
Funds will support classrooms, teaching and learning materials, and equitable access to quality education, with particular focus on disadvantaged communities.
"This commitment aligns with our national priority of delivering high-quality education and empowering every child to reach their full potential," Kalunga said.
The Ministry reaffirmed its dedication to the Free Education Policy and thanked stakeholders for their ongoing collaboration in advancing Zambia's education sector.
