Zambians Gather in Numbers for Hichilema Inauguration

Thousands of Zambians have begun gathering at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka to witness the inauguration of President-elect Hakainde Hichilema for his second term in office.

Crowds started streaming into the stadium as early as 06:00 hours this morning, with citizens from across the capital and beyond arriving well ahead of the ceremony to secure their places and be part of the historic occasion.

The atmosphere at the venue has been described as festive and celebratory, as supporters and members of the public turn out in large numbers to mark the beginning of President Hichilema's renewed mandate. Many arrived draped in national colours, singing and celebrating, in a display of the excitement surrounding the day.

President Hichilema, who was re-elected in the August 13 General Elections, will take the oath of office at the stadium, which was certified ready to host the ceremony earlier this week.

The inauguration is expected to draw a cross-section of Zambians alongside visiting Heads of State, special envoys and other dignitaries from across the region and beyond, reflecting the significance of the occasion both at home and internationally.

Security and logistical arrangements have been put in place to ensure the smooth flow of the day's proceedings, with organisers having worked in the weeks leading up to the event to prepare the venue.

As the crowds continue to build, all eyes now turn to Heroes Stadium, where President Hichilema is set to be sworn in for his second term.
