HH Reaffirms Commitment to Peaceful, Free and Fair Elections

President Hakainde Hichilema has called on Zambians to safeguard the country's peace, stressing that it should never be taken for granted and that every citizen has a role to play in preserving it.

He said Zambia must remain a peaceful nation, adding that there is no justification for violence or for citizens to turn weapons against one another.

The President emphasised that elections should be conducted peacefully and should centre on issues of governance, service delivery and national development rather than violence and bloodshed.

President Hichilema made the remarks during the Copperbelt Clergy prayers for peace and unity held at Global Ministries International Church in Kitwe.

He said Zambians had entrusted him with the responsibility of protecting the nation's peace and reiterated that political competition should be based on policies and ideas instead of intimidation or violence.

The President also assured the nation that Zambia would hold free and fair elections on 13 August.

Meanwhile, Copperbelt Christian Ministers Fellowship Chairperson Bishop Raddy Lewila reaffirmed the clergy's support for President Hichilema, saying they were committed to working with him to advance the country's development agenda.

Bishop Lewila said both the clergy and the public have an important role to play in fostering peace and contributing to national development. He added that President Hichilema is implementing people-centred policies intended to improve the welfare of Zambians.
