Mwaanga Calls for Love and Unity in Post-Election Zambia
Veteran politician and elder statesman Dr Vernon Mwaanga has urged Zambians to embrace one another and to promote a spirit of love and togetherness in the period following the 2026 General Elections.
In a statement issued to ZNBC News in Lusaka, Dr Mwaanga reminded the nation that elections come and go in a democracy like Zambia's, and that citizens must now put any political differences behind them. He called on all Zambians to rally once more under the country's enduring national motto, "One Zambia, One Nation," as the foundation for continued peace and progress.
Dr Mwaanga congratulated the people of Zambia for re-electing President Hakainde Hichilema to a second term in office, describing their participation as a reflection of the country's democratic maturity. He also extended his congratulations to Vice-President Mutale Nalumango, who stood as the President's running mate.
The veteran statesman observed that both the President and the Vice-President had received messages of goodwill from every corner of the country. This outpouring of support, he said, was a powerful demonstration of the national unity that Zambia has enjoyed and safeguarded over the past 62 years since independence.
Dr Mwaanga, one of the country's most respected elder statesmen, appealed to citizens across the political divide to choose reconciliation over division and to work together in building a stronger, more united nation. His remarks add to a growing chorus of calls for calm, healing and cooperation as Zambia moves forward into a new chapter.
