Kitwe Business Leaders Welcome UPND Victory

Business leaders on the Copperbelt have welcomed the UPND's victory in the 2026 General Election, expressing confidence that a second term will help sustain and build on Zambia's recent economic gains.

Cicero Strategic Advisory Group Managing Partner Edward Mwamulima said the election outcome had brought a sense of relief and renewed confidence within the business community. He noted that the result offered reassurance that the economic policies which have strengthened the country's macroeconomic fundamentals, from debt restructuring to currency stability, would continue uninterrupted.

Speaking in an interview with ZNBC in Kitwe, Mr Mwamulima said the private sector remained confident in President Hakainde Hichilema's ability to drive sustained economic growth. He did, however, urge the new administration to place greater focus on the challenges facing Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), arguing that removing barriers for smaller businesses would allow them to contribute far more effectively to the economy and create jobs.

His optimism was echoed by economist Aaron Sikombe, who said the UPND's re-election signalled continued investment in the Zambian economy and policy stability that investors value. Mr Sikombe singled out the mining sector as a key area of opportunity, predicting that it would remain a central driver of investment and economic activity throughout the second term.

Together, the assessments reflect broad confidence among Copperbelt business leaders that continuity in economic management will help attract investment, strengthen enterprise and support Zambia's ongoing recovery as the country enters a new political cycle.
