Chief Nkweto Urges Traditional Leaders to Partner with Government
Chief Nkweto of Chinsali District in Muchinga Province has called on his fellow traditional leaders to work hand in hand with President Hakainde Hichilema in driving national development, following the President's re-election.
Speaking to ZNBC News in an interview in Chinsali, the Chief said the people of Zambia had spoken clearly through the 2026 General Elections by returning President Hichilema to office, and that it was now time for all citizens, including traditional leaders, to rally behind the government of the day.
Chief Nkweto commended the progress made during the President's first term, singling out gains in education, agriculture and the Social Cash Transfer Programme as interventions that had improved the lives of ordinary people in his area. He said such achievements demonstrated a genuine commitment to grassroots development.
The traditional leader did, however, highlight the poor state of roads as the biggest challenge still facing his chiefdom. He appealed to the government to prioritise road infrastructure, noting that better roads would open up the area, spur economic activity and improve living standards for his people.
Chief Nkweto also welcomed the creation of the new Chilinda Constituency, expressing confidence that it would accelerate development and bring services closer to residents.
He pledged his full cooperation with the government in advancing development across his chiefdom, and encouraged other traditional leaders to do the same, stressing that unity between traditional authorities and the state was key to national progress.
