Senior NRPUP Figures Concede as Party Accepts Election Outcome

Senior figures in the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) have moved to accept the outcome of the 2026 General Election, congratulating President Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election and pledging to serve as a constructive opposition.

In an official post-election press conference today, the party's leadership, under President Ezra Tembo, formally acknowledged the results announced by the Electoral Commission of Zambia. "This was not our time. We accept the outcome and remain committed to serving Zambia," the statement read, congratulating President Hichilema and the UPND on their victory.

Looking ahead, the party said the election was over and it was time for the country to focus on development, promising to provide "robust checks and balances" while giving the new administration space to govern. It also urged its members to desist from any form of political violence.

The concessions extend beyond the leadership. Newly elected Luanshya MP Golden Mulenga separately congratulated the President, saying that while democracy may place leaders on different paths, "political affiliation will never become a barrier to cooperation, progress and national development."
