Government Releases K21.1 Billion in July

Government released K21.1 billion in July for public services, food security, social protection, free education and infrastructure, bringing Treasury releases for January to July to K152.05 billion.

This is according to a statement by Secretary to the Treasury Felix Nkulukusa.

The July allocation included K6.3 billion for transfers, subsidies and social benefits, K5.9 billion for the public service wage bill, K4.3 billion for debt service and domestic arrears, K3.4 billion for government operations and K1.2 billion for capital expenditure.

The Food Reserve Agency received K2.7 billion, while FISP received K660 million, taking its cumulative allocation to K6.4 billion.

The Social Cash Transfer Programme received K564.2 million, bringing its annual total to K2.3 billion, while schools received K841.4 million in free education grants, taking the annual total to K2.4 billion.

Grant-aided institutions received K709.3 million, while the Public Service Pension Fund received K507.3 million.

Of the K1.2 billion capital allocation, K592 million went to roads, K243.3 million to water infrastructure, K188.9 million to National Assembly rehabilitation, K101.3 million to education infrastructure and K50 million to mini-hospitals.

Mr Nkulukusa says debt servicing and arrears clearance remain critical to fiscal credibility and economic growth.

He says the second half of the year will focus on stronger public services, infrastructure, economic opportunities and livelihoods, while protecting key programmes amid global fuel price pressures.

Mr Nkulukusa says the continued releases demonstrate government’s commitment to translating public resources into tangible benefits for citizens, while maintaining prudent management of the economy.
