American YouTuber IShowSpeed Comes to Zambia, Compares Capital to US
Lusaka descended into chaos last week as American internet sensation IShowSpeed swept through the city, declaring Zambia's capital bears striking resemblance to the United States.
The high-energy YouTuber, born Darren Watkins Jr, brought his ambitious 28-day "Speed Does Africa" tour to Zambia after visiting South Africa, Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
"Zambia looks like USA, especially Lusaka," IShowSpeed told his massive online audience during a three-hour livestream attracting over 47 million viewers worldwide. "The landscape, the vibe—everything gives that feeling."
Accompanied by local rap star Slapdee, the global celebrity sparked pandemonium across the capital. Crowds abandoned their daily activities, flooding streets hoping to glimpse the flamboyant entertainer as his tour began in Matero before progressing through Manda Hill Mall, Mulungushi International Conference Centre, NASDEC, and concluding at Ngwerere's Shaolin Temple.
The American star, renowned for explosive energy, unpredictable behavior and devotion to football icon Cristiano Ronaldo, has built an internet empire through his distinctive loud, sometimes chaotic livestreaming style that commands millions of global followers.
His continental tour aims to spotlight Africa's culture, talent and natural beauty whilst connecting with fans and local personalities. Zambia represents one stop among 20 planned countries, with forthcoming visits scheduled for Algeria, Benin, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda and Senegal.
The visit underscores Zambia's growing profile as an attractive destination for international celebrities and content creators.
