Haimbe Calls for Collective Delivery of the Pact for the Future at UNGA81

Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Mulambo Haimbe wrapped up a busy day in New York last night. He is representing President Hakainde Hichilema at UNGA81.

Zambia and Namibia co-hosted a high-level event marking two years since the Pact for the Future. There, the Minister told delegates that the Pact was a collective commitment, so delivering it has to be a collective responsibility. The Presidents of Namibia, Kenya and Senegal also took part, and the discussion covered the issues that matter most to African households: fairer global finance, lower borrowing costs, the debt burden, jobs for young people and access to basic services.

Zambia co-facilitated both the Global Digital Compact and the Sevilla Commitment, which put the country at the centre of global work on digital cooperation and development financing. That work is now shaping how AI is governed and how the international financial system is reformed.

Later that day, Hon. Haimbe and Andorra's Foreign Minister, Imma Tor Faus, signed a Joint Communique establishing diplomatic relations. Both countries named sustainable tourism as a shared priority for tackling climate change, creating jobs and advancing education.
