ECZ Strengthens Voter Education to Increase Women's Electoral Participation

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has strengthened its voter education programmes to address barriers limiting women's participation in the electoral process ahead of the General Election.

Speaking at a women's conference in Chipata, ECZ Vice-Chairperson Major General Vincent Mukanda said an inclusive electoral process is fundamental to strengthening democracy. He emphasised that women play an important role as voters, leaders, advocates and decision-makers who contribute to Zambia's national development.

Major General Mukanda reaffirmed the Commission's commitment to creating an electoral environment that enables every eligible citizen to participate fully in the democratic process. He is currently in Eastern Province monitoring ECZ activities ahead of the elections.

Conference participant Catherine Njobvu praised the Commission for organising the event, saying it had improved participants' understanding of the electoral process. She added that similar engagements should continue, as they also help promote peaceful elections.

The Commission also hosted a youth conference in Chipata as part of its wider public outreach programme on electoral matters.
