HH Backs Farmers with New Livestock Loan Initiative
President Hakainde Hichilema has announced plans to introduce a low-interest loan facility aimed at helping farmers purchase livestock, as part of the Government's wider strategy to boost livestock production and strengthen agricultural productivity.
Speaking during a community engagement in Kalomo District, the President said the initiative would provide farmers with affordable access to finance, enabling them to invest in livestock and essential farming equipment. He explained that the scheme would complement existing agricultural support programmes designed to improve productivity and enhance rural livelihoods.
The President also reaffirmed the Government's commitment to the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP), directing that no current beneficiary should be removed from the scheme. Instead, he said the Government's focus is on expanding the programme so that more eligible farmers can benefit.
In addition to agricultural support, President Hichilema announced plans to establish a fully-fledged skills training centre in Kalomo District. The proposed facility is expected to equip young people with practical vocational skills, helping to improve employment prospects and support local economic development.
He further outlined plans for increased investment in public infrastructure across the district, including township roads, health facilities, dams and other water projects aimed at improving service delivery and the quality of life for residents.
Looking ahead to the upcoming elections, President Hichilema said the continuation of these development initiatives would depend on the UPND securing another mandate from voters. He urged residents across Kalomo's three constituencies to support UPND candidates at all levels, highlighting the introduction of free education as one of the Government's key achievements.
Meanwhile, Miles Sampa said he is working alongside the ruling party to mobilise support for President Hichilema in all ten provinces ahead of the upcoming General Election.
