Dr Chiluba Remembered for Democratic Reforms

President Hakainde Hichilema has honoured Second President Frederick Chiluba for his leadership and contribution to Zambia’s political, social and economic development.

President Hichilema said Dr. Chiluba had a fundamental role in the reintroduction of multi-party democracy in Zambia in 1990.

He also praised Dr. Chiluba for changes made to the transport and housing sectors resulting in economic empowerment for many Zambians.

The President paid his respects in a speech delivered on his behalf by Vice-President Mutale Nalumango at the 15th memorial service for Dr Chiluba at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

Zambia Army Director General for the Religious and Moral Services Branch, Shadrick Mwale described Dr. Chiluba as a courageous leader who spearheaded the labour movement while serving as Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) Chairman General.

Dr. Chiluba’s daughter, Huldah asked for politicians across the country to promote love, unity and forgiveness, saying political differences should never lead to bloodshed.
