President Hichilema reaffirms commitment to peaceful elections

President Hakainde Hichilema has assured the nation that the General Elections scheduled for 13 August will be conducted in a calm and peaceful environment, urging all political players to pursue issue-based campaigns.

The President said security agencies have been placed on high alert to safeguard peace before, during and after the polls. As Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, he noted that he took an oath to defend the Constitution and affirmed that all arms of government will continue to function effectively despite the dissolution of Cabinet and Parliament.

President Hichilema directed all Permanent Secretaries and controlling officers to ensure uninterrupted service delivery throughout the election period. "Our citizens must continue to access all government services without disruption. People should still receive healthcare, education, and other essential public services," he said.

He appealed to political leaders to avoid insults and name-calling, stressing that competition should focus on improving service delivery. The President further urged Zambians, particularly the youth, to use social media responsibly, warning that digital platforms must build the nation rather than spread misinformation or incitement.

Closing his address, President Hichilema called on all Zambians to uphold peace and unity in the true spirit of "One Zambia, One Nation."
