Tonse Alliance President Mundubile Detained at Lusaka Airport
The Zambia Police Service has formally charged Tonse Alliance president Brian Mundubile, 55, with aiding, abetting and counselling hate speech under Section 55 as read with Section 65 of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act No. 2 of 2021.
Police allege that between February 2023 and January 2025, Mundubile acted in concert with a known individual to support the operation of a Facebook page called "Munyaule Zambia," allegedly providing both content and financial backing to the page's administrator, identified as Chanda Nonde. The page is alleged to have published malicious and hateful content targeting various individuals over a sustained two-year period.
Mundubile was first warned and cautioned in June 2025 before being formally arrested on 19 March 2026 at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka as he prepared to board a flight. He was taken to Ibex Hill Police Station, where the formal charge was processed.
He has since been released on police bond and is expected to appear before court in due course.
