PF Expels Mundubile Over Tonse Alliance Leadership Role
The Patriotic Front has declared Brian Mundubile no longer a member of the party, deepening a dispute over his dual role as PF member and president of the Tonse Alliance — a political platform associated with former president Edgar Lungu.
Mundubile had insisted his election as Tonse Alliance president on 28 January 2026 did not sever his ties with the PF, describing it as an advancement in responsibility rather than a departure. The party's national chairperson, Jean Kapata, flatly rejected that position.
Kapata said Mundubile's assumption of the alliance presidency placed him outside PF discipline and institutional authority. She argued that leading a structure the party considers illegitimate was incompatible with continued membership, and that political parties cannot function where leaders pursue parallel roles that undermine collective governance.
She also cited claims by George Chisanga, described as a close Mundubile associate, alleging that a strategy to destabilise PF leadership and position Mundubile for political control had been in motion since 2022. Kapata said this explained his prolonged absences from Central Committee meetings.
Reports that Mundubile may join the Forum for Democracy and Development presidential ticket ahead of the August 2026 general elections, Kapata said, only reinforced the party's assessment that he had long since charted a separate course.
She urged the public not to be misled by claims of continued PF membership, and stressed that any former member wishing to return must formally apply for readmission under party procedures.
Until then, the PF regards Mundubile as an opposition politician operating entirely outside its structures.
