Haimbe Thanks UK for Governance Support at Commonwealth Meeting

Foreign Affairs Minister Mulambo Haimbe has expressed Zambia's gratitude for the United Kingdom's continued support in strengthening the country's governance institutions, praising British engagement in anti-corruption efforts and broader law enforcement initiatives.

Speaking at a bilateral meeting with British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers' Meeting at Lancaster House, Mr. Haimbe reaffirmed Zambia's commitment to building robust institutions, tackling corruption, and advancing reforms that create a predictable, rules-based environment conducive to investment and business growth.

The Minister used the occasion to press for deeper bilateral ties between Lusaka and London, identifying trade, investment, and energy as priority areas where closer cooperation could yield significant dividends. He highlighted the particular potential for the UK to partner with Zambia in developing its critical minerals sector, including value addition opportunities that could generate greater economic returns for the country rather than exporting raw materials.

Mr. Haimbe also reaffirmed Zambia's backing for ongoing reform efforts within the Commonwealth itself, arguing that the organisation must become more effective, inclusive, and better equipped to address the governance and development challenges facing its member states in the current global environment.

The meeting reflected the Hichilema administration's broader diplomatic strategy of deepening engagement with traditional partners while positioning Zambia as a stable, reform-minded destination for international investment and cooperation.
