Opposition Members Embrace UPND
The United Party for National Development welcomed approximately 1,700 new members from opposition parties in Lusaka's Chawama constituency, marking another significant show of confidence in the government's development agenda.
UPND Secretary General Batuke Imenda attributed the growing support to President Hakainde Hichilema's transformative policies, particularly the landmark free education programme and the administration's commitment to maintaining peace and stability across Zambia. He emphasized that the President's consistent message of national unity continues resonating with citizens from all political backgrounds.
Mr. Imenda urged party structures to warmly integrate new members into UPND's grassroots network.
National Youth Chairperson Gilbert Liswaniso reinforced the importance of teamwork, calling on members to foster unity as the party strengthens its foundation ahead of future electoral contests.
Lusaka Province Chairperson Obvious Mwaliteta described the event as embodying UPND's core values of reconciliation and equal treatment for all members, regardless of their political history.
Former opposition members expressed gratitude for the opportunity to support the government's progressive agenda. Innocent Kalimanshi, previously with PF, requested forgiveness for past disagreements and pledged cooperation moving forward.
Citizens First's Teddy Lubinda cited tangible development improvements as his motivation for joining UPND, praising the government's delivery on promises.
The defections underscore growing public confidence in President Hichilema's administration and its commitment to national development and inclusive politics.
