PF MPs Walk Out After Speaker Mutti Criticises Party Disorder
A group of Patriotic Front (PF) Members of Parliament walked out of the National Assembly on Wednesday after Speaker Nelly Mutti accused them of mirroring their party’s internal disarray during a heated exchange in Parliament.
The confrontation began when Nakonde MP Lukas Simumba rose on a matter of urgent public importance, questioning why the Speaker had not yet formally announced the PF’s newly selected Leader of the Opposition.
“The PF changed the Leader of the Opposition, and you’ve never announced the new leader. The people out there have been wondering why you don’t announce it,” Simumba said, adding that the delay had left the opposition disorganised and lacking direction.
In response, Speaker Mutti pointedly remarked that the PF should first resolve its internal affairs.
Following her comments, several PF MPs stood up and walked out of the House in protest. Speaker Mutti told them to “exit quickly” so that parliamentary business could proceed without interruption.
Later, when the PF MPs returned to the chamber, Speaker Mutti ruled that they had been dismissed for the remainder of the day due to their behaviour.
