Lubinda Accused of Rejoicing Over Lungu’s Death, Says UPND’s Moonga

Patriotic Front (PF) acting president Given Lubinda has come under fire from United Party for National Development (UPND) member Paul Moonga, who claims Lubinda is quietly rejoicing the death of former president Edgar Lungu, seeing it as an opportunity to appear on the ballot.

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, Moonga criticised Lubinda for failing to guide the late president’s family during a difficult time, highlighting that he should be laid to rest in his home country, Zambia.

“Given Lubinda should have been in the forefront saying, ‘No, I’m a former Minister of Justice, gentlemen, what you’re doing is wrong. Let’s go and bury Edgar Lungu at home, where everyone can mourn him,’” Moonga said.

Moonga expressed sadness that Lungu’s family had been influenced by political forces. “It’s so painful that the family is being used by the Tonse stupid alliance,” he said. “I look at my friend Edgar Lungu lying wherever he is, whom I miss so dearly.”

The UPND member also questioned the decision not to repatriate Lungu’s body to Zambia for burial, despite President Hakainde Hichilema reportedly sending a plane to South Africa to assist with the logistics. Moonga noted that while many Zambians are buried abroad due to limited resources, this was not the case with Lungu.
