ECZ Sets January 29th Date for Kasama Mayoral By-Election

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has confirmed that voting for the Kasama Mayoral by-election will take place on Thursday, January 29th, 2026.

According to ECZ Corporate Affairs Manager Patricia Luhanga, prospective candidates will submit their nominations on December 30th, 2025.

The official campaign period is scheduled to commence at 14:00 hours on Wednesday, December 31st, 2025 and will conclude at 18:00 hours on Wednesday, January 28th, 2026.

In a statement released to ZNBC News, Ms. Luhanga outlined that candidates must present their completed and attested statutory declaration and nomination documents to authorized officials—including a Magistrate, Local Court Magistrate, Head of a Government Primary or Secondary School, Principal of a College, Commissioner for Oaths, Election Officer, or Returning Officer—on Tuesday, December 30th, 2025 between 09:00 and 15:00 hours.

The by-election follows the passing of Kasama Mayor Theresa Kolala of the Patriotic Front (PF) on Friday, December 5th, 2025.
