PF Opens Presidential Race Ahead of Key General Conference

The Patriotic Front (PF) has officially launched its presidential campaigns as the opposition party prepares to elect a new leader and members of its Central Committee — a move many see as a critical test of its internal democracy.

The announcement follows a Central Committee meeting held on Sunday, 2 November 2025, at the party’s Lusaka Secretariat, chaired by Acting President Given Lubinda. He was joined by Acting Secretary General Brenda Nyirenda-Chisopa, Party Chairperson Emmanuel Musonda Mpankanta, and Women’s Affairs Chairperson Kampamba Mulenga.

The PF says the General Conference will take place within 30 days and will adopt a hybrid format, allowing both in-person and virtual participation.

Nomination and expression of interest fees have been set at K200,000 and K50,000 respectively for male presidential aspirants, while female candidates will pay K100,000 and K50,000. Those vying for positions in the Central Committee will pay K1,000.

In a statement, the party also criticised the ongoing constitutional review process, describing the work of the Technical Committee as “falling short of credibility and transparency.” It further raised alarm over the current voter registration exercise, questioning whether the Electoral Commission of Zambia can deliver free and fair elections.

Acting President Given Lubinda urged party members to conduct peaceful campaigns and respect the outcome of the elections, saying, “May the best men and women win as we build a stronger party ready to reclaim power.”
