Hichilema Praises Traditional Ceremonies for Unity and Cultural Pride
President Hakainde Hichilema has underscored the importance of traditional ceremonies in preserving Zambia’s cultural heritage, promoting unity, and educating the younger generation. Speaking through Central Province Minister Mwabashike Nkulukusa at the Chipushi Traditional Ceremony of the Lala people in Chief Shaibila’s Chiefdom, the President said such events play a vital role in strengthening national identity and fostering peace across communities.
He emphasised that traditional ceremonies are not only celebrations of heritage but also serve as platforms to pass down values, customs, and traditions that bind the nation together. President Hichilema noted that Zambia’s rich cultural diversity should be a source of pride and cohesion, helping citizens to appreciate and respect one another’s roots.
To support the successful hosting of the Chipushi Ceremony, President Hichilema made a generous donation of 100,000 Kwacha in cash, 100 bags of mealie meal, and five heads of cattle. The contribution, he said, reflected the government’s continued commitment to cultural preservation and community development.
The President’s message was well received by the gathering, which celebrated his call for unity and cultural pride as essential foundations for national progress.
