Home Affairs Minister Condemns Suspected Violence against Lubinda

Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu has stressed that Zambia Police Service will investigate the alleged assault of acting Patriotic Front President Given Lubinda. He said that the matter will be dealt with the utmost urgency to ensure accountability and uphold public safety.

Videos emerged online on Wednesday afternoon of Lubinda appearing distressed and being coerced by suspected political cadres. Lubinda was in Kabwe meeting with PF officials ahead of the upcoming convention. Minister Mwiimbu later confirmed that he was rescued by police.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday evening, Minister Mwiimbu said “let me be unambiguous, if this video is authentic, it depicts serious crimes that were committed at that particular scene … anyone found to have broken the law will face the full force of the law.”

He added “we must not and will not allow Zambia to return to the political violence we saw in the past. Let us stand united against violence in all forms.”
