Hichilema to Undertake State Visit to Zimbabwe
President Hakainde Hichilema will undertake a state visit to Zimbabwe on 14 Friday November 2025, following an invitation from his counterpart, President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Mulambo Haimbe announced that the two leaders will co-chair the inaugural session of the Zambia-Zimbabwe Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Harare. This new framework represents a significant upgrade from the existing Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation, elevating bilateral engagement to a strategic level.
Minister Haimbe explained that the BNC reflects both presidents' shared commitment to strengthening cooperation, accelerating infrastructure development, and deepening economic integration between the neighbouring countries. Senior officials will meet on 12 November, followed by a ministerial meeting on 13 November, to prepare agreements for consideration during the inaugural session.
The new framework aims to enhance collaboration across critical sectors including trade, energy, and transport. Minister Haimbe emphasised that the visit underscores the enduring friendship and shared history between Zambia and Zimbabwe, noting that both nations jointly manage vital regional assets such as the Kariba Dam, Victoria Falls, and major transport corridors essential to their socio-economic development.
He reaffirmed Zambia's dedication to regional cooperation and economic diplomacy as drivers of inclusive growth across Southern Africa, pledging to advance bilateral relations in alignment with President Hichilema's vision of promoting peace, stability, and economic transformation through diplomatic engagement.
President Hichilema will return to Lusaka immediately following the conclusion of his Harare engagements.
