President Hichilema Honours Fallen Heroes at Ndola Remembrance Day
President Hakainde Hichilema led Remembrance Day commemorations on Sunday at the Ndola Cenotaph on the Copperbelt. The ceremony brought together war veterans, service chiefs, and diplomats associated with Zambia.
The President laid wreaths in honour of Zambian, Commonwealth, and foreign soldiers who died in various wars. He was joined by Cabinet Ministers and other government officials, as well as several war veterans, including Brigadier General Laston Chabinga.
Zambia Army Director General of Religious and Moral Service, Brigadier General Rev. Shadreck Mkwale, delivered a speech emphasising the importance of Zambians upholding loyalty, sacrifice, and patriotism—values exemplified by those who served their nation.
"We must remember and pray for our fallen servicemen and women who gave up everything for our dignity and peace," he said. "Remember it is their sacrifice that shaped our history and protected our future and gave us the peace we are enjoying today."
This year's Remembrance Day observances held particular significance as 2025 marks 80 years since the end of the Second World War.
